Port Renfrew - Fall 2010
Just a few kilometers outside a small town on the western tip of Vancouver Island lies a magnificent mountain range. Port Renfrew is a very small town, with the prime source of economy being a shrkinking lumber industry. As you make your way over little known roads that once were very rough logging roads, you encounter some of the most incredible landscape in the world. Gentle rolling mountains, albeit not as tall as the Rockies, yet still are breathtaking in their own way. The original plan for this photo shoot was to travel to Fairy Lake, approximately 10 kilometers outside of Port Renfrew, for a location that is both fairly anonymous as well as incredibly beautiful.
The road to access this area was being worked on and we had to take a substantial detour on very rough logging roads. When we finally arrived at Fairy Lake, it became evident rather quickly that the area had been inundated with a large rainfall recently and the entire lake area was flooded and inaccessible. We did manage to take a few nice shots, but then had to carry on without the original goal being attained.
On the way home we encountered some incredible scenery that we captured. Rolling mountains covered in a thin veil of clouds provided an excellent subject. We also encountered a river area with a series of small waterfalls that were simply incredible.
